Course Summary

This course is aimed at individuals over the age of 16 who wish to become Exercise to Music Instructors.

You will learn:

  • Exercise and fitness knowledge covering bones and joints, muscles and muscle actions, cardio respiratory systems, components of fitness and the principles of training
  • The bodies systems and there response to exercise
  • How to plan and teach safe and effective exercise to music sessions
  • The principles of training
  • How to adapt exercise to suit varied fitness levels
  • To use a range of teaching skills

To obtain the CYQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing - Exercise to Music, you must successfully complete the following units: 

  • Unit 1 - Exercise and Fitness Knowledge
  • Unit 2 - Health, Safety & Professionalism in Exercise and Fitness Instruction
  • Unit 3 - Instructing Exercise to Music

Prerequisites

You must be over 16 years of age.

Course & Schedule

Online 

You will be required to attend 2 training days after you have completed the online material. These training days will re-cap on all of the theory you have learnt while studying on-line and provide you with an opportunity to put your practical skills into action. Your tutor will also give you valuable feedback to prepare you for your assessment.

Intensive

You will be required to attend 5 training days before your assessment day. These training days will re-cap on the pre-course reading material you have covered and will focus heavily on the practical elements of the course. Each day will combine theory and practical elements and throughout the 5 days you will receive valuable feedback to prepare you for your assessment.

Assessment

You will be required to attend 1 assessment day to complete this course. On your assessment day you will sit a multiple choice theory exam in the morning and then you will take your practical assessment. You will need to submit a portfolio of evidence to support your practical assessment. Your tutor will help you prepare this on your training day.

Progression & Employment

After successfully completing this course you will be able to become a registered Level 2 Fitness Instructor with REPs. You will also have two options.

Option 1:

You can begin working within the industry as an Exercise to Music Instructor. You will find employment opportunities in major health club chains, large hotels and local leisure centres. A full time fitness instructor can expect to earn between £12,000 - £18,000 per year. You may be required to work from several centres as a freelance instructor as most clubs do not offer full time roles for Exercise to Music instructors. It may be beneficial to also complete the GYM qualification to make it easier to secure full time employment.

Option 2:

You can progress onto the Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training course. This course consists of 5 modules. The modules are;

  • Level 3 Advanced Fitness Instructor
  • Level 3 Nutrition and Weight Management
  • Level 3 Training in Different Environments
  • Level 3 Client Lifestyle and Fitness Assessment
  • Level 3 Business and Marketing Skills

After you have successfully completed all 5 modules you will gain the overarching Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training qualification. This will allow you to begin working as a Personal Trainer.

You may set up your own business or work within a health club as an in-house trainer. You may decide to do a mixture of the two or even set up your own training studio. Personal Trainers earn in excess of £30,000 per year with some trainers charging over £100 per hour for their services.

After completing the Level 3 Advanced Fitness Instructor module, you will also be able to gain more specialist qualifications such as the Level 3 GP Referral certificate.

REPs requirements:

As a Level 2 Fitness Instructor you will be required to earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points to stay registered as a Level 2 Instructor with REPs. You will be able to complete any our CPD workshops, attend any of our CPD seminars or view any of our CPD webinars to earn your points.
